We've arrived in London

After a VERY LONG day traveling, we arrived in London.

The flight from SLC to JFK was surprisingly fast. We watched the first 30 minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness before it quit playing and they started it over. The second time we got about about 45-60 minutes into it before it quit. Someday I'll know how it ends....
We had a three and a half hour layover in NYC. We ate at Buffalo Wild Wings because that was what was available. Not sure if I was overly hungry or the food was actually good, but I enjoyed the wings and the beer.
The flight to Heathrow was okay. We sat next to some jackass that wouldn't stay out of the aisle. He changed into his jammies complete with slippers. It would have been easier sitting next to a 5 yr old...

I received my very first stamp in my passport!

We made our way to the train and into London. We happened upon the changing of the guards.

We walked around St. James park.

Walking around London with a full pack and tired bodies got old quickly so we made our way back to a train to ride in to Kent, where we are staying with Andrew and Alex. We surprised Alex by picking him up at school. Andrew and Jacki  took us to McDonald's, which is an after school tradition for Alex and Louise. My new favorite little friend is Louise. She is such a doll and so funny.
The history here is so amazing. Andrew lives down the street from where Charles Dickens lived and the pubs he frequented. Dickens' house is now a private school. Andrew's house and all of the surrounding houses in his neighborhood were built by Italian prisoners of war from WWII. He also lives close to a castle that was held by 30 men against 3000 soldiers. I am fascinated to say the least by the history here. We ate fish and chips for dinner and later this week we are going to a local pub for a night out.

Today, the agenda is London again to meet up with Dave and Lindsay. I plan on riding the Eye of London!

  1. actually this is Kirsty. Did you get to see the big changing of the guards show with the band and horses and everything? Sounds like you are having fun. I hope the weather is being kind to you. Keep the posts/pics coming.
